The Three Musketeers

《三劍客》（The Three Musketeers）又譯作《俠隱記》。大仲馬一八四四年在法文報紙《時代》（Le Siècle）上連載。小說的背景設在十七世紀，敘述年輕人達太安離家前往巴黎，加入火槍隊的故事。兩年後被翻譯成為英語。

《三劍客》是影響名作家金庸先生最大的一本書，金庸曾說：「中外作家中，我最喜歡大仲馬，從十二、三歲時開始喜歡，直到如今，從不變心。」又說：「在所有大仲馬作品中，《三劍客》一書對我一生影響極大，我寫武俠小說，可說是受了此書啟發。」

清末翻譯家林紓依福州音翻譯為「大仲馬」的亞歷山大．仲馬（Alexandre Dumas），也是經典冒險小說《基度山恩仇記》的作者。「Dumas」法語發音為「堵罵死」，用福州音翻譯果然比較文雅好聽。

distinguish

「distinguish」是「辨別、區分」，例如：

I can’t distinguish things so far away.（那麼遠的東西我無法區分。）

Some people just put more effort into distinguishing right from wrong than others.（有些人會比別人更努力地分辨是非黑白。）

「distinguish」也是顯出特色，例如：

The llanos have some distinguishing characteristics.（南美的大草原有些顯著的特徵。）

capricious

「capricious」是反覆無常、多變的，例如：

We can’t go camping while the weather is so capricious. （天氣如此多變，我們不能出去露營。）

Because fate is capricious, you never know what it will bring into your life.命運無常，你永遠不知道生活會發生什麼變化。

At eighty years old, my grandmother is still rather capricious.（祖母八十歲了，仍然相當任性。）
