提要

「台上三分鐘，台下十年功」，講師在課堂上雖只有數十分鐘，要精采絕倫吸引台下的學生聽課，必須經過無數次的模擬粹練。不管做什麼事，想要成功必須先下一番苦功，初次上台的小女孩，儘管緊張得渾身發抖，但憑著充分練習，還是成功了。

The screeching sound of tires hitting the tar at rapid speed, Lucky thought that it was the sound of her snotty older brother Tom, trying to learn to drive Dad's beloved truck. She looked outside and saw it was not her brother, but a rusted orange delivery truck outside.

Lucky lives on a farm in Queensland, near Currumbin Valley where she has eight chickens, three cows, two horses and her pet pig named Bacon. Which also means when she tries to get to the letter box, had to use a bike.

The letter contained information that her grandfather who lived in a large house in the city, was in hospital. Even though her family did not want to leave their farm, they knew they couldn’t refuse. The very next day they caught a train to the city, neon lights flashed in reds and greens and colourful lights and signs swirled, Lucky’s head was spinning with all the excitement and confusion of the city.

They got to their "holiday house", "I don’t like this house it reeks of the city!" grumbled Tom.

"Well duh!" Lucky replied. Lucky had to escape from all the hustle and bustle, she went down a street where there was an acting school, she peered inside and saw kids her age were doing acting and drama as well as any old Jack Black or Keira Knightley, she had dreamed since she was little and so very much wanted to be a successful actress. She saw pamphlets near the door for tryouts for a scholarship to the school she grabbed one and walked home.

She told her family about it, and her mom and dad commended her for trying, her brother on the other hand teased her that she would never get in. Lucky practiced one of her favorite poems but pondered if it was not the right one, finally she stuck with it, because she thought if she had chosen it in the first place, it must mean something to her.

The day had finally came and Lucky thought she had built a wall of courage and confidence, but nerves and doubt were shooting at the wall.

"Break a leg!" Someone said to her, this made her feel nauseous, she held her breath and entered the stage, the flash of gleaming lights poured down on her, Lucky felt the floor was going to drop, and she was going to be swallowed by a thousand hungry crocodiles.

Sweat trickled down her forehead, the nerves were unbearable. Her name was Lucky, but she felt so unlucky. Getting something she had wanted for ages, the chance to be in the spotlight, she stared out into the audience, and read her poem from the bottom of her heart. When she finished, she sat down on the floor, but to her complete surprise, she won second place and also won a three term scholarship.

That day Lucky devoured her fears and pushed through.

輪胎在柏油上快速移動，發出刺耳的聲音，名叫「幸運」的女孩認為，這是她的粗魯的哥哥湯姆，想用爸爸心愛的卡車學開車，她往外看，卻發現那不是她的哥哥，而是一輛生鏽的橙色送貨車。幸運的生活在澳洲昆士蘭一個農場附近的可倫賓谷，在那裡她有八隻雞、三頭牛、兩匹馬和她命名培根的寵物豬。住在大農場也表示，當她要去信箱拿信，必須要騎自行車才行。

信中的消息是，她在城市中擁有大房子的祖父住院了。儘管她的家人非常不想離開自己的農場，他們知道還是不得不這麼做。第二天，他們趕上火車進城，城市的霓虹燈閃爍著紅色、綠色和五彩的燈光和標誌在眼前盤旋，幸運覺得頭暈目眩，所有的興奮和混亂交織。

到了他們「節日才來的」房子，湯姆委屈地說：「我不喜歡這惡臭城市中的房子。」

「好了啦！」幸運說著，從喧囂中穿越一條街，那裡有一個戲劇學校，她向裡面張望，看到她同齡的孩子正在表演戲劇，如同傑克布萊克和綺拉奈特莉，她從很小就非常想成為一名成功的演員。她看見門口附近放著選拔賽獎學金的簡介小冊子，她抓了一本回家。她告訴她的家人這件事，媽媽和爸爸稱讚她的努力，另一方面她的哥哥則逗她：「妳不會上的啦」。幸運練習她最喜歡的一首詩，但又左右思量，是不是正確的選擇？最後她堅持它，因為她認為，如果她當初選擇這首詩，就表示它意義非凡。

選拔賽終於到了，幸運以為她建造了銅牆鐵壁般的勇氣和信心，但緊張和疑慮卻同時在攻打這「牆壁」。「

好好表現！」有人對她說，她覺得想吐，腸胃翻攪得幾乎無法呼吸，她進入舞台中央，聚光燈在頭頂傾洩而下，幸運覺得地板就要從她的腳下崩塌，下面有上千隻飢腸轆轆的鱷魚準備吞噬她。

她的額頭淌下汗水，緊張得難以承受。她名字是幸運，但她覺得「不幸運」。期盼多年的、有機會在聚光燈下面對觀眾，她發自肺腑地朗誦心愛的詩，當她完成後坐了下來，出乎意外的獲得第二名，並同時得到三學期的獎學金。那一天，幸運吞噬了她的恐懼，堅持信念向夢想前進。
