2. Afflictions are endless; I vow to eradicate them all{7}: To vow to extinguish all afflictions.
From beginningless times, sentient beings have been troubled by ignorance and afflictions. They are lost from their intrinsic nature, and are foolish and do not know their ways. Their minds germinate greed, hatred and foolishness, and their physical bodies commit the acts of killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. They are furious and sorrowful, jealous and having erroneous views, and subsequently create afflictions and commit karma. As a result of karma, they suffer endlessly within the cycle of rebirth and death. As the saying goes, “Beating your thoughts to death, and bring your Dharmakaya to life{8}.” The determination of vowing to eliminate completely the afflictions is the wisdom of self realization and cessation of evil.
