「severely」是「嚴重地」，例如：

「one good turn deserves another」是「禮尚往來、善有善報」，例如：

long time no see

「long time no see」譯為「好久不見」，「long time」（好久）、「no」（不）、「see」（見）的對比還相當工整，這不符合英語語法規則的片語真的是英文嗎？應該算是的，雖然母語為英語的人未必常用，但「long time no see」已列入牛津詞典了。

英語現今是國際溝通工具，所以會收納廣泛使用的字詞。例如社交媒體的自造詞「selfie」（自拍），抬頭挺胸地登上牛津詞典「大雅之堂」，二○一三年時，還曾經進入主流詞匯表。
