In order to strengthen the Five Bhiksus' confidence to believe, the Buddha further used his own personal experience as a proof to explain to them,"I have known the suffering of human life, and I have eradicated all the causes of suffering. At the same time, I have attained the state of nirvana after perfecting the path of cultivation".
The Buddha discoursed three times to the Five Bhiksus on the wonderful meanings of the Four Noble Truths. It was thus known as the"Three Turnings of the Dharma Wheel":
At the first sermon on the Four Noble Truths, called "Turning the Dharma Wheel for Recognition"{10}, the Buddha defined and explained its meanings so that the Five Bhiksus could comprehend it. The content says, "Thus is suffering, which is oppressive; thus is the cause of suffering, which beckons; thus is the cessation of suffering, which is attainable; thus is the path, which is practicable."
At the second sermon on the Four Noble Truths, called "Turning the Dharma Wheel for Encouragement"{11}, the Buddha exhorted and guided the Five Bhiksus to practice the Four Noble Truths in order to eradicate afflictions and accomplish liberation. The content says, "Thus is suffering, you should know; thus is the cause of suffering, you should end; thus is the cessation of suffering, you should actualize; thus is the path, you should practice".
