profound

「profound」是深刻、強烈的，例如：

Their discoveries which had a profound effect on many areas of medicine.（他們的發現，對很多醫學領域產生深刻影響。）

Her patriotism was profound.（她有強烈的愛國心。）

The little boy nodded sagely as if what the teacher had said was profoundly significant.（小男孩一本正經地點頭，好像老師所說的話意義深刻。）

stand out

「stand」是站，「out」是出，「stand out」就是站出來，也就是「傑出」、「顯眼」。例如：

She stands out as the best in her class.（她是全班最傑出的學生。）

若乾脆把stand out」合併成一個字「outstanding」，意思仍是傑出：

Rachel Weisz is an outstanding actress. （瑞秋．懷茲是一位傑出的演員。）

Yellow flags stand out brightly, set against the blue sky.（黃色的旗幟在藍天的映襯下顯得分外鮮艷。）

This car is a real stand-out as a speed machine.（這部汽車是輛表現突出的高速汽車。）

Lightning never strikes twice

「Lightning」是「閃電」，「Lightning never strikes（the same place）twice」（閃電不會擊中（同一地點）兩次），也就是同一個人不會總是運氣不好，「不會那麼『衰』啦！」

例如以下的對話：

A：It's strange, but I feel safer since my apartment was robbed.

B：I figure lightning never strikes the same place twice.

（甲：「很奇怪，在我的公寓被搶劫之後，我覺得更安全了。」

乙：「我想是因為『閃電從來不會擊中同一個地方兩次。』」）

但在《Sweet Home Alabama》片中，小男生帶著小女生躲在剛被 閃電擊中的地方，才說完「lightning never strikes the same place twice」，閃電就再擊中他一次。
