Always Give Rise to Kindness
Translated by Dharmaksema (385~433, Northern Liang Dynasty)
English translation: Venerable Miao Guang
When being slandered, one lets the mind endure; on the contrary, when being praised, feel shame. On the path of spiritual cultivation, one celebrates with joy instead of pride. One is able to tame wicked minds and harmonize a divided assembly. One makes known the good deeds of others instead of their faults. One never talks about what others are ashamed of, and does not expose their secrets to anyone else. One has intentions to repay even small kindnesses bestowed in full. One maintains a mind of kindness towards anyone who begrudges him. One regards all living beings as his own parents, and would rather lose his life than ever tell a lie.
