On November 4th, Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple Christchurch hosted the "Cloud and Water Tea Session." Venerable Juexi, Minister in Charge of FGS Christchurch, shared important aspects of Buddhist practice with more than 30 BLIA members.

The attendees of the session included Vice President of Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) South Island NZ James Low, Subchapter Advisor Mingyuan Kuo, 1st Subchapter President Tiffany Su, 2nd Subchapter President Qian Cao, and 3rd Subchapter President Elsa Lee.

Venerable Juexi recalled that during her stay in Taipei, she witnessed many dedicated volunteers actively displaying the spirit of “Selflessness” driven by the power of faith. Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the Founder of Fo Guang Shan Monastery, once said that Humanistic Buddhism isn't just a formal doctrine, but an implementation of what the Buddha said, addressing what people need and encompassing purity, goodness, and beauty. In the past, Buddhism preached that life is suffering whereas Humanistic Buddhism advocates serving the public in various aspects of life to develop affinity. Simultaneously, it transforms entangled connections and troubles into kind, pure thoughts thus fostering joy and happiness.

Venerable expressed that without sufficient compassion, one cannot vow to develop the Bodhi Mind. Insufficient wisdom leads to attachments. She explained that only by increasing compassion and wisdom can one achieve a more complete understanding of the surroundings in a better way. Therefore, one should cultivate the Six Paramitas to enhance merit. By getting closer to the temple, making vow to serve, actively participating in Dharma Service, engaging in sutra transcription etc. are ways to enhance merit and wisdom.

Venerable stated that BLIA members are part of the Temple family, and everyone's contribution is crucial. BLIA members were touched by the care and guidance of the Temple, and inspired to face life's challenges bravely and work together to serve the community.
