Australian neighbours starlet Pippa Black has shed her clothes in favour of silverbeet in a new ad which urges people to "let vegetarianism grow on you". Organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), it features Black dressed in a full-length gown made of the green leafy vegetable, and wearing a neck-lace of red chillies.
During the shoot, Black had to stand patiently as her dress was meticulously pinned together and was repeatedly sprayed with water. The actress said any discomfort she felt was nothing compared to what animals went through on factory farms. She said going vegetarian was one of the best decisions she had made. "Of course, going vegetarian is a positive step to help stop animal suffering, (but) it's also great for your health and the environment," said Black, who put her studies in animal technology on hold to act. Australia has the sec-ond-highest obesity rate in the world – nearly 60 per cent of adults and more than one-fourth of children are considered to be overweight or obese. Numerous studies have found that vegetarians are on average markedly leaner than meat-eaters. Consumption of meat and other animal products has al-so been linked to heart disease, dia-betes and some kinds of cancer.
