Black-necked cranes are seen in a nature reserve2 located in the Lhasa River valley in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous3 Region, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003. Black-necked cranes are the only cranes in the world living on plateaus.4 There are about 5,000 black-necked cranes in the world and most of them spend winter and breed5 in Tibet. Tibet has strengthened6 the protection of the rare7 bird these years.

　Young Yul Kim, an elder of the Korean Presbyterian8 Church and a coordinator9 of the new museum dedicated10 to Korean-American immigrants11 to the U.S., holds the first ever Korean flag, a design from about 1880, over a later flag from 1913 to the 1930s, at the church near downtown Los Angeles Friday, Dec. 5, 2003. Nearly a century after some of the first Korean immigrants to California formed an organization to oppose12 the Japanese occupation13 of Korea, the Los Angeles Korean-American community will open a museum to commemorate14 that struggle.15

   二○○三年十二月五日，在洛杉磯市中心附近的韓國長老教會教堂，長老也是新設立的韓僑博物館聯絡人Young Yul Kim，手持一八八○年左右設計的第一面韓國國旗，下方是一九一三到一九三○年間沿用的國旗。最早移民到加州的韓僑，有些成立組織，對抗日本佔領韓國；在將近一個世紀後，洛杉磯韓裔美國人社區，設立這座博物館，以紀念共同奮鬥的史蹟。
