grand

常聽到的「grand prize」是指「頭獎」，「grand」是壯觀或重大的，例如：

Never had she seen a grander sight of Victoria Harbour.（她從未見過像香港維多麗亞港如此壯麗的景色。）

He sometimes has a grand piano in his classroom.（他有時在教室裡放一架大鋼琴。）

It will be grand if you can come.（你要是能來，那就太棒了。）

whirl

「whirl」是「迴旋、急駛」，例如：

The houses whirled past us as the train gathered speed.（火車愈來愈快，一旁的房屋在我們眼前一閃即過。）

The ballerina suddenly made a whirl.（芭蕾舞演員突然做了一個急旋動作。）

Her mind was in such a whirl that she could hardly compose thoughts.（她心亂如麻，心思難以鎮定。）

wicked

「wicked」程度可輕可重，通常當成「邪惡討厭的」的意思，例如：

People thought him dangerous and wicked.（人們認為他既危險又邪惡。）

It ‘s wicked of her to act like that.（她這麼做可真缺德。）

也可以當成「頑皮淘氣的」，例如：

She had a wicked sense of humour. （她有種古靈精怪的幽默感。）
