By 佛光大學佛教研修院碩士班4.A friend who is like the earth: This is a friend who shares the workload, responsibilities and worries for us, offering a helping hand without asking any in return. It is just like the earth that carries and supports all forms of life, and allows plants and flowers to grow, blossom and bear fruits. At the same time, the earth lets mankind step on it without any resentment. Therefore, having a friend who is like the earth is like having a hundred kinds of food and treasures which all beings rely on. Moreover, it provides nutrients and protection to all beings as well. Thus, its great kindness is tremendous.

4.有友如地︰如地的朋友就是，遇到事情可以替我們擔當、服務，為我們分憂解勞，甚至不計代價付出，完全不求回報，正如大地一樣。大地普載萬物，生長花果，甚至任人踐踏，都能毫無怨尤的承受。所以，如地的朋友是百穀財寶，一切仰之，施給養護，恩厚不薄。



The purpose of making new friends is to find someone who can encourage and help each other. As a saying goes, “a good friend is the same as family.” Thus, from the four types of friends mentioned above, we should keep away from friends who are like a flower or scale; and stay close to friends who are like a mountain and the earth.

結交朋友，是為了互相砥礪、互相幫助，所謂「善友第一親」，因此以上四種朋友中，如花、如秤的損友，應該遠離；如山、如地的益友，應當親近承事。
