The Four Deserts Race, organized by Racing The Planet, is a series of races in the world's four largest and the coldest, hottest, driest and windiest places between January 25 and February 1. Each challenge covers 250 kilometers (total 1,000 kilometers).
由「挑戰全球」舉辦的「四大荒漠巡迴賽」，在世界四個最大、最冷、最熱、最乾燥及多風地區進行的一系列賽跑，於一月二十五日至二月一日之間舉行，每項挑戰涵蓋兩百五十公里（共一千公里）。

Taiwan's top marathon runner, Lin Yi-chieh, familiarized2 himself with the South Pole's environment by watching videos, and whenever cold fronts3 blanketed Taiwan he exercised in mountainous regions4 wearing only shorts.
  台灣頂尖馬拉松賽跑選手林義傑，藉由觀看錄影帶讓自己熟悉南極的環境，每當冷鋒籠罩台灣，他只穿短褲在山區運動。

Lin ranked third in the Gobi March (China) in 2003, got his first gold medal in the Atacama Crossing (Chile) in 2004 and got a silver medal in the Sahara Race (Egypt) last year. This year, only 15 competitors5 (including Kyung Tae Song from Korea, who is blind and aided by his guide) were eligible6 for the Last Desert Race in Antarctica. Due to a blizzard that dropped temperatures to minus 34 degrees Celsius, Lin caught a cold, but continued to win a gold medal.

His most impressive experience was seeing hundreds of penguins7 that he imagined to be cheering8 him on and his least impressive was have to carry his own body waste since "artificial9 pollution" is forbidden at the South Pole.
