On 16th December 2023, the FGS NZ YAD Consensus Seminar took place. Abbess Manshin of FGS NZ and Senior Advisor Lintao YU of BLIA North Island Chapter were cordially invited to the seminar-themed Balancing. BLIA YAD Subdivision 1 President Steven Sun, Subdivision 2 President Thomas Lai, Fo Guang Club (FGC) President SinJun Chong, led over 30 YADs in attending the seminar, facilitating a series of discussions and sharing sessions. BLIA North Island President Evelyn Ku and Subchapter 4 President Eric Chang attended to support the event.
Senior Advisor Lintao encouraged the youths with wise words from the Founding Master of FGS Buddhist Order, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, Only by immersing oneself can one delve deeply, only by giving can one excel. He emphasised that through enduring adversities, one can strive and grow while through serving and giving, one can cultivate a compassionate heart and accumulate merits. He further shared that spiritual development is crucial for cultivating balanced and positive mindsets, forming an important foundation for life, career and relationships.

Reflecting on the question, Will I get something in return when I give? Abbess inspired the youths to re-evaluate the definition of giving. Abbess shared that despite being in wheelchairs, Venerable Master never ceased to offer others help with the mindset of What can I do for you? Grand Master always strived to fulfil others’ needs. The Abbess expressed that those who are rich at heart naturally offer assistance to others. By prioritising others’ needs, we can understand and improve our weaknesses. She added that Prajna Wisdom is essential, as practice without it is blind. Along the path to Buddhahood, as we give and shoulder responsibilities, we gain merit and wisdom and achieve enlightenment.
The Consensus Seminar concluded amidst applause and positive feedback. Organiser President Steven expressed that Venerable Master, Abbess and Venerables have shown constant support and guidance to the youths without expecting anything in return. As youths, we should treasure these blessings, show heartfelt gratitude and strive for improvement. FGC President SinJun added that the value of life lies within how much has been given and endured, as we should appreciate what we’ve received from others and give back to society through wisdom.
