What do you get a panda for his birthday Zoo keepers at the San Diego Zoo gave Mei Sheng an ice cake and tasty treats of apples and yams 19 August, 2007, which he quickly gobbled up. Mei Sheng, the second giant panda to be born at the San Diego, was celebrating his fourth birthday. He has younger sibling that was born two weeks ago, but zoo keepers still don't know the panda's sex yet.

Guests will be able to see him at the Zoo's Giant Panda Research Station up until October, when the male panda will board a plane and make a new home in the People's Republic of China. Born in August 2003, Mei Sheng will become only the second giant panda to be born outside of the China to be sent to its native homeland as part of an international collaboration to save this endangered species. Mei Sheng will join China's breeding and conservation program at the Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, Wolong Nature Reserve.

今年10月前，遊客將可在聖地牙哥動物園大熊貓研究站看到美生，之後這隻公熊貓將搭機回中國展開新生活。美生出生於2003年8月，他將是第二隻在中國大陸境外出生，但「回歸祖國」的大熊貓，這也是國際間合作拯救這個瀕臨滅絕物種計畫的一環。美生將加入四川成都臥龍中國保護大熊貓研究中心的繁殖保育計畫。

Mei Sheng, literally Beauty Born, has dual meaning: one is "Born in America", the other is "beautiful life".
