提要
《Changing Batteries》是一群大學生的結業作品，描述簡單的老人與機器互動，傳達深遠的親子情誼，放上網路之後，已超過二十二萬次點閱。今天正好是母親節，看完本文或觀賞過影片，應該更加感謝父母、祖父母的養育之恩。
An old lady lived alone, one day, she heard the door bell rang, it was a parcel from her son.
On the top reads: "Sorry mom, Could not make it back again this year, here is somthing for you, John."
Lonely old lady sighed, she knew her busy son can not come back with her again.
When she opened the package and found a robot, she turned on the switch, the robot opened its eyes, seemed to come alive.
Old lady guietly picked up the broom and handed to the robot, "how can this replace my kid!"
Simple-minded robot kept sweeping, cleaning windows, gardening, day by day, with no complaint. At the end of the day, he watched sunset with the old lady.
One eveing, old lady fell asleep while she was watching television, the robot rapidly took a blanket on her.
Old lad woke up and found the additional cloth on her, the considerate robot was intently watching TV, on July 5th 6pm, a circus show would come to town, the old lady looked at the happy face, It, no, this child must really like it!
Gradually, they found themselves get along pretty well, sometimes, when robot was leaking lubricating oil, granny would help him wipe it clean.
When the robot was about to ran out its batteries, quickly the old lady help to change it, the fully charged robot, and the contentedly granny, look at each other and laughed.
One evening, the old lady came back conventionally from the clinic, the robot happily helped her with the hat. Granny suddenly had a serious cough, robot rushed to make her a cup of herbal tea.
Feeling better, the old lady then took out a can of advanced fuel for the robot, robot received the gift with great pleasure, and sit by the smiling old lady, watched the sunset together.
On this day of July 5th, the robot cheerfully show the calendar to granny, the old lady, constant coughing, took out two tickets from her pocket, it's for the circus tonight.
Robot was very excited, rush back to hang the calendar, thinking they were ready to the circus.
The robot come back with granny's hat, tragically found her motionless, was she asleep? Robot gently shook her hand, still not moving......
Robot then realized, "granny must be out of power!" he rushed fetch from the drawer, put a battery into the old lady's pocket, and two, amd more batteries......
Batteries scattered in and out, nevertheless, the old lady sat still with her eyes closed, sadly embraced the old lady, the robot sat down on the porch, watched the sunset with granny.
Days go by, the robot watering flowers, watching the sunset, look after old lady's hat. Then the familiar batteries warning signs was on, the robot's vision began to blur, and finally went dark.
Up in a foggy place, Robot opened his eyes again, the smiling old lady standing in front of him! He took out those two tickets, they are going to the circus, in heaven.
解說
一位獨居的老婆婆，有一天，聽到了門鈴響，發現一個包裹擺在門口。
包裹上面寫著「媽媽，對不起，今年還是不能回家陪您，這是一點小禮物，約翰。」
孤單的婆婆長嘆一口氣，她知道兒子忙，但實在很久不見了。
她打開包裹，發現裡面是一個機器人，按下開關後，機器人張開眼睛，似乎開始有了生命。
意興闌珊的婆婆心想：「這怎麼能取代我的孩子呢！」她拿起掃把遞給機器人，默不吭聲地就離開了。
單純的機器人，就這樣替婆婆掃地、擦窗戶、澆花，日復一日，毫無怨言地做家事，黃昏時，也會坐下來陪伴婆婆看著日落。
有一天，婆婆看著電視睡著了。機器人怕她著涼，趕緊拿條毯子給婆婆蓋上。
婆婆醒來後，發現貼心的機器人正目不轉睛地看著電視，原來七月五日的晚上六點，會有一場馬戲團表演，看了機器人的專注表情，婆婆心想，這個東西，不，這孩子一定很喜歡馬戲團吧！
日子久了，兩人相處融洽，機器人喝飲料（機油）弄髒了嘴巴，婆婆會幫他擦拭，情同祖孫。
有一次，機器人忽然警示信號大響，婆婆發現他快沒電了，迅速到抽屜找出電池，幫機器人換上。充飽電的機器人，重新睜眼看著婆婆，兩人滿足地相視而笑。
某一天傍晚，婆婆照慣例看醫生回來，機器人快樂地迎過去，幫老婆婆拿了帽子。婆婆放下袋子後，忽然用力咳嗽起來，機器人連忙遞過一杯花草茶。
婆婆笑瞇瞇地接過來，從袋子裡拿出了給機器人的禮物，一罐高級機油！機器人收到禮物，開心地捧在臉上蹭呀蹭，看著機器人單純的喜樂，婆婆也跟著笑了，兩人又一同坐下看著日落……
七月五日這一天到了，不會說話的機器人，高興地捧著日曆到婆婆面前，婆婆卻正劇烈的咳嗽著，喘息間，婆婆從口袋拿出兩張馬戲團的門票，她可沒有忘記約定呢！
機器人好高興喔！老婆婆將門票放入機器人肚子裡，囑咐他把日曆掛回去，他們準備出發了。
就在機器人拿了帽子，要給婆婆時候，卻發現情形不對……婆婆怎麼一動也不動了，機器人舉起婆婆的手，沒反應，而且婆婆怎麼搖也搖不醒……
看著婆婆的口袋，單純的機器人認為「一定是沒電了！」著急的他，衝去抽屜拿電池，塞進老婆婆的口袋，沒有用……婆婆的手無力下垂著。
機器人看一顆電池不夠，於是再塞一顆、再塞一顆……電池裡裡外外散落了一地，婆婆無論如何都不醒，婆婆再也醒不過來了。
機器人擁抱著婆婆，雖然沒有眼淚，卻感覺得到他的悲傷。黃昏了，他還是在婆婆身旁坐下，陪婆婆看夕陽。
過了不知多少日子，機器人依舊澆著花草、看夕陽、看著婆婆的帽子。
忽然，熟悉的低電量警示信號又響了，機器人眼前開始變得模糊、黑暗，因為，沒有人幫他換電池了。
模糊的視線變清晰了，原本黑暗的變光明了。
機器人再度睜開眼睛，不敢置信地發現，在明亮開闊的草地上，婆婆滿臉笑容地站在他的面前，開心至極的機器人趕緊拿出門票，婆婆牽著他的手，兩人走向天堂的馬戲團。
