Rough and rugged is the way of the world;

Watch the confused people spur

Themselves up the mountain,

Struggling for advantages

On cliffs with no way back.

Compassionate is the Buddha and Heaven;

Wishing that sentient beings

Turn their heads and find a safe harbor,

And quickly cross the sea of suffering

In the boat of loving kindness.
