184.Forbearing1 patience is the highest devotion2, Nibbana is supreme say the Buddhas; he, verily3, is not a recluse4 who harms another; or is he an ascetic who troubles others.

諸佛說涅槃最上，

忍辱為最高苦行。

害他實非出家者，

惱他不名為沙門。

185.Not insulting5, not harming, restraint6 according to the Fundamental Moral Code, moderation7 in food, secluded abode, intent on the higher consciousness, this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

不誹與不害，嚴持於戒律，

飲食知節量，遠處而獨居，

勤修增上定，是為諸佛教。

186,187.Not by a shower of gold coins does contentment arise in sensual pleasures. Of little sweetness, but painful, are sensual pleasures. Knowing thus, the wise man finds no delight even in heavenly pleasures. The disciple of the Fully Enlightened One delights in the destruction of craving.

即使雨金錢，欲心不滿足。

智者知淫欲，樂少而苦多。

故彼於天欲，亦不起希求。

正覺者弟子，希滅於愛欲。

188. To many a refuge fear-stricken men betake themselves, to hills, woods, gardens, trees, and shrines.

諸人恐怖故，去皈依山岳，

或依於森林，園苑樹支提。
