2.Boundless Compassion{2}
珧Compassion uproots misery{3}珣 Boundless compassion is a mind which eradicates the sufferings of sentient beings. If a bodhisattva sees sentient beings suffering and in sorrow, yet cannot generate a compassion mind of empathy, and furthermore seek Buddhahood from above and deliver sentient beings beneath, as well as relieve beings from suffering and deliver joy to all beings , the bodhisattva will not accomplish the great Path of Bodhi. Thus, boundless compassion is the essential requirement for a bodhisattva to achieve Buddhahood.
3.Boundless Joy{4}
A mind of loving-kindness delivers happiness to sentient beings; and a joyful mind delivers joy to sentient beings. Happiness is the happiness which derives from the objects of the five sense organs{5} and joy is the delight which derives from mental objects{6}. The Buddha was born into this world with one great purpose that is to instruct, to bring benefit and delight sentient beings. Thus, we often read in the sutras about Buddha's disciples respectfully requesting for the Dharma; listening with great anticipation, and after that, praising enthusiastically and joyfully. Clearly, the Dharma joy and joy of Chan are the true Dharma treasure of Buddhism.
