3. Patience (ksanti): Does patience give you a disadvantage or advantage Generally, people think tolerating others makes one disadvantaged. However, a moment of patience will bring peace, while a step backwards will make one's world much bigger. All adverse circumstances are effec-tive prescription to enhance cultivation. In fact, patience seems disadvantage, but it is advantage.
4.Diligence (virya): Is diligence a painstak-ing experience or a joyful one Generally, people think it is painstaking to practice diligently or work hard. However, one need not put off till tomorrow what can be done today. While striving bravely towards the path of cultivation may seem like a painful process, the practitioner will even-tually truly embrace the supreme Dharma joy{7} in the heart.
5.Meditation (dhyana): Is meditation a dull or lively practice Generally, people think medi-tation involves the dull and still action of sitting down with closed eyes. In fact, actions such as collecting firewood and carrying water, as well as walking, standing, sitting and lying down{8} are all practices of meditation. The blowing wind and waving trees, flowing water and moving boats are full of the lively taste of meditation.
6.Wisdom (prajna): Can wisdom be sought from without or within Generally, people pre-sume that wisdom means to have a rich knowl-edge and outstanding skills. In fact, no dharma can be attained from outside the mind, what is sought from the external world are illusory and unreal. Once the mind awakens, it is omniscient. There-fore, only wisdom attained from within the mind is truly beneficial.
The Six Paramitas, generosity, upholding precepts, patience, diligence, meditation and wis-dom, are ways which can deliver both others as well as oneself.
