生活在大都會的我們，經常看到有人不守交通規則，以下簡單介紹數個英語相關詞：

● breakneck  極快的、非常危險的
The driver pulled up to the curb and the traffic cop told him that he had been doing ninety-eight-a really breakneck speed.

司機將車駛上路緣，交通警察告訴他剛才行車車速達九十八公里猁猁 一個極危險的車速。

● drag 拖
The school girl was dragged along the street by the school bus after its driver closed the door before she had boarded.
那個女學生還未完全登車，校巴司機已把門關上，將她拖行路中。

● whiz 高速奔馳（並發出颼颼聲等噪音）
Some drivers simply go too fast─they whiz round corners and overtake other cars on the road as though they’re driving racing cars.

有些司機開車簡直太快了─他們高速拐彎、超越前車，滿以為自己在開賽車。在此筆者想起英式英語中，也有一非正式動詞描寫「高速奔馳」，“scorch”；而“scorcher”則是「高速駕車者」。

● breakdown 拋錨
The company has arranged for a breakdown vehicle to come and collect my taxi later today.
那公司已安排拖吊車今天稍後到來，拖走我那輛拋錨計程車。

● jaywalking 不遵守過路規則的行為
  My sister got a ticket because of jaywalking— crossing the road without heeding the oncoming traffic.
我姐姐收到一張罰款單，原因是她沒留意迎面交通情況，亂過馬路。

● negligence 粗心大意
The police accused the driver of negligence in that he failed to keep a proper lookout.
警方控告司機疏忽大意，未有小心注意路況。

● on its side （指汽車）翻側、橫躺
The old passenger was thrown headlong against the seat in front, then went over the top of the seat uncontrollably and landed on the floor. He remained upside-down for seconds before he could pull himself upright! He then realized that the bus was on its side.

那個年老乘客被拋前，一頭撞向椅背，旋即不受控地飛越前椅，頭下腳上的跌在車箱地板上，要好幾秒鐘才能正起身來！他這才知道，原來公車翻側了。如果說汽車“on its top”，則是說「四輪朝天」了。那船隻翻側又怎麼說呢？答案是“capsize”，注意此字基本上只形容船隻。
