●cringe (v.) 畏縮
As the stray dog is often mauled by unruly street boys, it has become so intimidated that it cringes upon seeing people.

"maul"(v.)是「毆打、粗暴對待」之意。

●goings-on (pl. n.) 不好的活動、行為不檢
The rascals like to act up by doodling on walls, strumming on the piano, and other such goings-on.
那班淘氣鬼最愛胡亂畫牆壁、彈撥鋼琴等搗蛋行為。
"rascal" (n.) 是「頑皮鬼、小淘氣」
"act up" 是動詞，指「搗蛋、調皮」
"doodle" (v.)是「（苦悶或神不守舍時）亂畫」"strum" (v.)　是「上下彈撥」。

●horseplay (n.) 喧嘩粗野的玩樂、嬉戲
After the horseplay by the wicked students, the classroom floor was strewn with crumbled chalk dust.

●vandal (n.) 故意破壞公物的人

●play possum 裝睡
This time  Ming was not playing possum, he sobbed himself to sleep.

"possum"一字解作「負鼠」。

You can often find cars in which the powerful stereo systems are thumping out deafening obtrusive pop music.

"obtrusive"　(a.)　是「事物太惹人注目、過火而使人嫌棄之」。
