當你的外國朋友跟你說"Let's paint the town red"時，你是否一臉疑惑為什麼要把「城鎮漆成紅色」，或者當你聽到"Once in a blue moon"，是否困惑何謂「藍色月亮」？在日常生活會話中，俚語總是扮演著吃重的角色，往往有畫龍點睛之效，它點出了人與事的處境，情緒或行為，今天，且讓我們一同在色彩中略窺究竟。

●Black and White-to think everything or judge everything to be either good or bad
對事情僅有「對」或「錯」的兩極化判斷
Ex：They try to see everything in black and white although they know this is impossible.
縱使他們知道事情不可能，只是對與錯那樣的簡單，但他們依然如故。

●Blue in the face-to be very angry or upset,emotional or excited
氣極敗壞，情緒激動
Ex：He argued with her until he was blue in the face but he couldn't convince her.
即使他已爭辯到臉紅脖子粗，他仍無法說服她。

●Give someone the green light
-give permission to do something.
允許／答應別人去做某事。
Ex：They finally gave me the green light to go ahead with the building.       

●Green-new or inexperienced
新手，沒經驗
Ex：He was very green.
他是一個新手。

●Green Thumb -a talent for gardening, making things grow.
綠化高手
Ex：He has a green thumb and can grow almost anything in his garden.
他真是個綠化高手，在他的花園裡什麼花草都有。

●In the Black
-successful or profitable
成功的、賺錢的
Ex：Their business has been in the black for many years
多年來他們的生意都經營的很好。

●In the Red
-unprofitable or losing money
賠錢的、失利的
Ex：Due to the economic downturn many companies are in the red.
經濟衰退下，許多公司都虧損。

●Out of the blue
-suddenly, without warning
突然的、無先兆預警的
Ex：Right out of the blue he quit his job.
他就這樣突然地毫無預警的辭職了。

●Once in a blue moon
-rarely, not very often
極少發生的、罕見的
Ex：They eat Indian food once in a blue moon.
他們鮮少吃印度菜

●Paint the town Red-have a party, have a really good time
舉行一個狂歡派對
Ex：After graduating we went out and painted the town red.
畢業典禮之後，我們出去享受一個狂歡的派對
 
●Red-letter day
-a day that is memorable because of an important event.
值得記憶／紀念的日子
Ex：The day she graduated was a red-letter day.
她畢業的那一天是個值得記憶的日子

●White elephant-a useless possession, or a waste of money
浪費金錢、不需要（虛榮）的東西
Ex：They never use the TV they bought. It's a white elephant.
他們從未用過那台買的電視，真是浪費。

●White lie-a harmless lie told to hide a small mistake or to be polite.
白色謊言（非惡意的欺騙）
Ex：I didn't want to say I had dinner with my boss so I told my friend a white lie and said I was with my brother.
我不想讓我的朋友知道我和老闆一起晚餐，所以我說我是和我哥哥在一起。

Ex：He passed the exam with flying colours.
他以高分成功通過考試。

●Yellow streak-to show cowardice
懦弱的
Ex：Don't expect his support when things are dangerous, he has a yellow streak running down his back.
