P(to M):We seem to have ordered the same drink.

M(to P):A lot of people drink coffee. What's your point

P:We have something in common. My name's Peter, what's yours

M:Monica Prescott. Nice to meet you, Peter. Do you come here often

P:The lattes here are the best.

M:I'd have to agree, but if you drink enough coffee, you'll die early.

P:Who wants to live forever

M:I couldn't agree more. Would you like to go outside for a cigarette

P:I thought you'd never ask. Shall we

M:Sure.

P [lighting a cigarette]: So you work around here

M:No, my husband is an investment banker. He travels to New York a lot on business, so I'm alone in the house a lot.

P:That must be really lonely. So what do you do all day

M:Mostly drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, and read Russian and French literature. You

P:I work for a chemical company. Sometimes our factories have polluted local rivers around this area.

M:I won't tell anyone if you won't.

P:It's a deal. Well, I better get back to work. Nice meeting you. Thanks for the cigarette.

M:Anytime, Peter. I hope to run into you again.
