●clamorous a. 喧鬧叫囂的
The clamorous mob was held accountable for the gory violence flared up principally in a rundown suburb.
那班紛擾吵鬧的暴民，被指要為主要在破落郊區爆發的流血暴力事件負責。
  「gory」a. 是「滿是鮮血、極為殘忍的」；「rundown」a. 是「殘破的」。

●incendiary a. 煽動性的（可引發強烈情緒或暴力）
The incendiary article written by the leftist has in some degree instigated the racial rioting.

 「instigate」v. 是「煽動、唆擺、促使」，與下面的「foment」v. 義近。

●foment v.  挑起、助長
The union leader had tried to foment the ferment among the blue-collar workers, but his attempt was abortive.

 「ferment」n. 是「動盪」，與「foment」v. 拼寫相似，讀者宜多加注意。

●smoulder v. 充滿強烈情緒（但卻沒有完全表現在外）
At first only smouldering discontent was found among the exploited labor. It reached bursting point when the labor was simmering with anger because of the bureaucracy.
最初被剝削勞工之間只醞釀著不滿情緒，其後卻因官僚主義而一觸即發，轉化為滿腔怒火。
 「simmer」是「充滿（難以控制的）憤怒等強烈情緒」。

●the lunatic fringe 極端份子
The disturbance near the headquarters was caused by the lunatic fringe and was quelled by the riot police eventually.
總部附近之騷亂由極端份子引起，最後由防暴警察敉平。
「the lunatic fringe」字義由「lunatic」（瘋狂）和「fringe」（極端、偏頗）兩義合成。
