Over 60 percent of computer users have problems related to neck and shoulder pains, while 24 percent indicated that the pain has disrupted their daily lives, revealed1 a research by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health under the Council of Labor Affairs. Using a computer mouse for more than four hours a day is a big no-no2 if you want to avoid neck and shoulder pains.
While such aches may not pose3 an immediate threat, they could result in reduced work efficiency and could affect sleep quality, moods and daily life in general. If neck and shoulder pains are allowed to go untreated or are not treated correctly, pathological4 deterioration5 of muscles and bones could result, making it difficult to cure.
Experts advised that computer users should wear a pair of weaker eyeglasses when using computers and they should take a break, stand up, and do some stretches6 at least once every two hours. Computer users should pay more attention to their posture7 and the upper body should be held upright8 and allowed to lean9 naturally against the backs of chairs and that the head and neck should never be tilted forward.
You are suggested go to optometrists and ask for a pair of "computer glasses", which are a weaker prescription especially made for near-work use. If you wear contact lenses you can wear "plus lenses" (also known as reading glasses) over them when reading.
