相信許多人都曾玩過樸克牌（poker）這西方頗為流行紙牌遊戲，難怪二○○三年，美國國防部特別印製了「撲克牌通緝令」（personality identification playing cards），上有伊拉克海珊（Saddam Hussein）等在逃官員肖像。英語中與card（紙牌）相關的成語很多：

●trump card 殺手(金間)、王牌

不要太早使出殺手(金間)，先保留著，有需要時才用它。

●winning card 王牌

●play the......card 亮出……牌（以取得優勢）

●put one's cards on the table 攤牌、坦白表明意向、想法、計畫等
Nothing will get changed and you're still the one to suffer in silence until you put your cards on the table.
除非你坦率說出自己的意願，不然你也只能啞忍著。

●show one's cards/hand 攤牌、坦白表明意向、想法、計畫等
The president was advised by his think tank not to show his cards at an inopportune time.
智囊團建議總統不宜於不適當時候攤牌。
 
其實這條目與「put one's cards on the table」意思可說是差不多，可以互用，但不可與「a show of hands」混淆，後者純粹表示「舉手表決」。
