S:Good morning, Peter!

P:Good morning, Jessica. You look really cheerful1 this morning. Did you have a good weekend

S:Yes, it was relaxing. I stayed in and caught up on some reading. How about you

P:Well, it started out all right. I took Jane out to dinner for her birthday. But then, I found out some bad news.

S:Oh no, what happened

P:It's my pet fish, Flipper. He passed away last night.

S:Oh Peter, I'm so sorry to hear that. You must be devastated.2

P:I'm not sure why he died. I kept the fish tank3 really clean, and fed him twice a day. The other fish in the tank never bothered4 him.

S:I know that you loved Flipper very much. You always told me what a great fish he was.

P:I know. He was my best friend. Life is so cruel5 sometimes.

S:Do you need a hug6

P:Ok.

S:Don't cry, it's going to be ok. You can go to the pet store and buy another fish.

P:I don't know if life without Flipper will ever be the same.

S:You're going to have to pull yourself together, Peter. Mr. Berman wants to see you in his office.

P: What does he want

S:I don't know, but it sounded important. You'd better get over there. I wouldn't keep him waiting too long.

秘書︰彼得，早安！

彼得︰潔西卡，妳早，妳今早看來很愉快，妳過了個好周末？

秘書︰對，令人放鬆不少，我待在家裡看些書，你呢？

彼得︰嗯，剛開始還不錯。珍生日，我帶她出去吃晚餐，但我接到一個壞消息。

秘書︰噢，真差勁，發生什麼事？

彼得︰我的寵物魚蛙鞋，牠昨晚死了。

秘書︰噢，彼得，我真感到遺憾，你一定很難過。

彼得︰我不確定牠怎麼死的，我的魚缸很乾淨，我每天也餵牠兩次，魚缸中另外那條魚也從未騷擾牠。

秘書︰我知道你很愛蛙鞋，你總是跟我說牠是一條很棒的魚。

彼得︰對啊！牠是我最要好的朋友，生命有時真殘酷。

秘書︰你需要安慰的擁抱？

彼得︰好。

秘書︰別哭，一切會好轉的，你可以到寵物店再買另外一條。

彼得︰我不知道沒有蛙鞋的日子會變成怎樣。

秘書︰你得振作點，彼得，博曼先生在辦公室裡想見你。

彼得︰他想要什麼？

秘書︰我不知道，但聽起來是重要的事。你最好快過去，要是我不會讓他久等的。
