Armani, the 19-month-old capuchin mon-key, is seen clambering onto the shoulder of his owner Elyse Gazewitz and planted a kiss on her cheek at their home in Rockville, Mary-land, 17 December, 2007. Armani was held in a zoo for seven months during a custody battle, which saw a judge order him returned to Gazewitz in early December.

Gazewitz bought Armani in 2006 from a breeder in Florida, but he was seized by the authorities in May 2007 in a case that had strong parallels to nightmarish child custody cases, in which one parent wrongfully accuses the other of abuse or kidnapping.

The Montgomery County brought several charges against Gazewitz, deepening the night-mare for the doting pet parent, whose plight won her sympathizers around the world. "I was getting calls from around the country and from France, England, Italy, Spain, people asking what could they do, how could they help. People wanted to help with my legal fees and write letters to the county council," she said.

It's really a happy holiday season for El-yse Gazewitz and Armani.
