TAG Schools Nurture Silver Medalists at the 63rd DepEd National Games

On 4th August 2023, Aerobic Gymnastics student-athletes of Team Western Visayas Region 6 won silver medals during the 63rd Department of Education (DepEd) Palarong Pambansa or National Games, they presented their medals to Venerable Master Hsing Yun and witnessed by Abbess Venerable Miao Jing in Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple.

These silver medalists of the Trio Elementary Category are Dave W. Ofquila and Nicole D. Rosatasi from Old Sagay Elementary School, together with Althea Grace D. Crisostomo from Jose B. Puey Sr. Elementary School. Both schools are awarded Three Acts of Goodness (TAG) School by Fo Guang Shan Foundation through Venerable Master Hsing Yun's Education Trust Fund.

Coach Rose Mermida, Trainer JB Mermida and Team Adviser Rema Aguirre trained the medalists to breathe and synchronize their rhythmic route. Furthermore, they focus on the practice of TAG in building self-confidence and strengthening team dynamics. These medalists have known TAG through holding the duty in student councils. Dave Ofquila's dream is to study in Guang Ming College of Tagaytay where he can continue to be passionate in TAG and aerobic gymnastics.

Mr Alexes Sandino at Guang Ming College, Manila Campus met the competing aerobic gymnasts at San Andres Complex and handed out scholarship brochures.

DepEd Western Visayas Region 6 is indeed the Home of the Champions in garnishing 1st Runner-up in 2023 Palarong Pambansa (Overall), as well as 1st Runner-up in Elementary Level and 2nd Runner-up in Secondary Level after a 3-year hiatus of this national games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 63rd  Palarong Pambansa returned with a theme, “Batang Malakas, Bansang Matatag”"Batang Malakas, Bansang Matatag." ( lit. 'A Strong Youth, A Stable Nation') where 10,000 young athletes from 17 different regions.
