The Buddhist Perspectiveon Fortune and Longevity
Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927 -)
English translation: Venerable Zhi Yue
It is said in the sutras, “Our present fortune is accumulated by our ancestors, thus they must be cherished. Our future fortunes will bless our children and grandchildren, thus they must be cultivated. Our present fortunes are like a lamp whose oil will be exhausted as we keep burning it. Our future fortunes will be the oil that is added to the lamp, the more we add, the brighter the lamp.” We must learn to seize our present fortunes as well as causes and conditions, while diligently cultivating them for the future. In this way, good fortune and happiness will always follow wherever we go, and we will always reap sweet and beautiful fruits.
